Porth Joke Campsite

A quiet family campsite with an unrivalled location

Adjoining Treago Mill is a well drained field for camping. It is just a few minutes walk along a level sandy path to the beach. The whole area is natural, rural and is classified both as an area of outstanding natural beauty and an area of scientific interest for its rare flora and unspoiled environment.

We emphasise that it is a quiet site and we request that everyone should respect the peaceful atmosphere of the countryside.

Facilities include an attractive cornish stone toilet block, unmetered hot showers and a washing up room with hot water. There is free WiFi across the field, a free ice pack service and an electronics charging service. Another important facility is the natural sandpit in the centre of the lower field which provides a safe social centre for young children where they will entertain themselves happily for hours. As they get older they graduate to the woods and stream surrounding the field. Bridges are built, bridges collapse, swings are created and no doubt they sometimes also collapse.

Dogs are not permitted and we are not able to accommodate caravans or large motor homes but camper vans are very welcome. 6.5m is our maximum size for vans. Fires are permitted on site as long as they are in firepits well off the grass. Fires are allowed on the beach as long as the beach is left as it was and finished fires are not buried. Firewood must not be collected from the surrounding woods. Trees growing in our sandy soil are very slow growing and will not burn due to high levels of stored moisture. Seasoned logs can be purchased at the house.

We provide a wash and squash facility for food and food packaging only. This includes disposal points for food, small cardboard packaging, tins, plastic and glass. All other items such as product packaging, broken chairs, tents and beach toys are your responsibility and will need to be taken home. Local tips will no longer allow access. Please unpack new items at home and buy wisely. We have branded rubbish bags available at £5 each for general rubbish. These are collected by a private contractor. Alternatively bring your own and take them home. A pair of seagulls will help themselves to any food left outside your tent. Apparently, we ate all their fish. They can open anything except the zip of your tent and your vehicle doors.
